Former US President Donald Trump is on a campaign tour in southeast Iowa. He's doing big events to gather his supporters. He's focusing on places that used to support Democrats but are now leaning towards Republicans. This change is because of less support from labor unions and more Republican backing.

Trump had a big rally in Ottumwa. 2,500 people came to see him in the Bridge View Center. Ottumwa is in eastern Iowa and used to vote for Democrats. But in 2016, it switched to Trump, even though it was with the Democrats when Barack Obama was President.

This is Trump's second visit to eastern Iowa in two weeks. He's trying hard to get people to promise they'll vote for him in the January 15 caucuses. There are other Republicans competing for attention too.

During the Ottumwa event, Trump said he was sure he'd win by a lot in the caucuses. His supporters endured the hot weather to see him.

Trump had a big crowd in Ottumwa, but former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley had only about 200 people at her campaign event in suburban Des Moines the day before. This shows how strong Trump's support is in Iowa.

Trump will go to the Waterloo and Cedar Rapids areas next week as part of his Iowa campaign.

Some former Democratic voters like Rick and Nancy Anderson now support Trump. They used to be in unions and voted for Democrats in counties like Wapello.

While he was visiting, Trump talked about a temporary government spending plan to avoid a shutdown. He didn't like it, especially because House Republicans have a slim majority.

Trump is doing well in Iowa, and other Republicans are trying to get support from people who aren't for Trump. His campaign volunteers are getting people to promise to support him in the caucuses.

After Iowa, Trump spent time in California. Even though he lost the state to Joe Biden in 2020, he still got a lot of votes there. He talked tough on crime and raised money in Orange County.

Trump also visited Macomb County, Michigan. This is an important place for elections. He talked about how he doesn't like Joe Biden's idea of more electric cars while there's a strike with autoworkers. Trump wants to appeal to working-class voters in that area.
