Gaetz files motion to remove Speaker McCarthy from leadership position

Rep. Matt Gaetz from Florida wants to take Speaker Kevin McCarthy's job as the top leader in the House. This happened after a week of disagreements about government funding, where Gaetz said he'd try to remove McCarthy if he worked with the other party.

After Gaetz made his move, McCarthy responded on a platform called X, saying, "Bring it on."

Before a deadline on Saturday, McCarthy and other Republicans suggested a plan to fund the government until November 17. This temporary plan got support from both Democrats and Republicans in the House.

Gaetz said on Sunday that he would definitely try to remove McCarthy from his position and said they need new leaders they can trust.

Gaetz needs 218 votes to successfully remove McCarthy from his role as Speaker of the House.

McCarthy defended his actions, saying he's willing to risk his job to stand up for the American people.
