The United States is doing something important today. They are making friends with two small island nations in the Pacific Ocean. These nations are the Cook Islands and Niue. It's the first time the US is officially recognizing them as independent countries.

Why is this happening? Well, the US wants to make stronger friendships with countries in the Pacific Ocean. They are doing this to balance out China's growing power in the region. This has been one of President Joe Biden's big goals since he started his job.

The US government has been working hard to build better relationships with the Pacific Island countries. They invited the leaders of these countries to visit the White House on Monday.

President Biden said that he is proud to recognize Cook Islands and Niue as their own countries. He thinks Niue is important because it helps with things like protecting the environment and keeping the oceans safe.

He also said that this recognition will let the US work closely with these countries on big problems. These problems include dealing with climate change, protecting the oceans, and making sure the Indo-Pacific region stays open and free.

President Biden is also giving money to help the Pacific Island countries. He announced new funding for their infrastructure (like roads and buildings) and a $10 million investment to help them keep track of what's happening in the ocean.

There's a group called the Pacific Island Forum, and it's made up of leaders from many countries in the Pacific Ocean. President Biden met with them, had lunch together, and talked about important stuff. They also talked about climate change, which is a big worry for these countries because they're close to the ocean, and rising sea levels can be a big problem.

The US wants to work closely with these countries to make the world better. They want to help them with things like building new US Embassies, sending volunteers to help, and letting more students from these countries study in the US.

Lastly, the US, along with Australia, India, and Japan, is going to help the Pacific Island countries keep an eye on what's happening in the ocean. This is because they're worried about China's actions in the region.

President Biden wants the Pacific Island countries to know that he cares about their worries, especially when it comes to climate change. He wants them to know that the US will stand with them and make sure they don't lose their status as countries because of climate change. The US is also giving money to help with sustainable fishing in the Pacific Ocean.

In the future, the US will also send a ship from the Coast Guard to work with the Pacific Island nations. This ship will help them with training and cooperation.

So, the US is making new friends in the Pacific Ocean and promising to help them with their problems, like climate change and protecting the ocean. They want to make the world a better place by working together. Please Share This Article Thankyou..
