Six people lost their lives in a terrible accident in Florida. This includes three kids. It happened when a train crashed into a car at a railroad crossing. The police are calling it a very bad accident.

A family was driving to a party on a Saturday evening. They came across a crossing with a stop sign and a railroad sign, but there were no arms or warning bells. The accident happened in Plant City, Florida. The car had six people, and sadly, all of them died. Nobody on the train got hurt.

One person in the car, Guillermo E. Gama, got really hurt. He has injuries in his brain, kidney, and lung. He's in a machine to help him breathe, and he's in a very bad condition. But doctors think he will make it.

The Sheriff, Chad Chronister, said it's a very sad thing. The car went onto the train tracks when a CSX train was coming at 55 miles per hour.

Video footage showed that the car didn't stop at the crossing. The train tried to slow down and honked its horn, but it was too late. Another person in a car nearby also honked to warn the driver. The accident happened around 6:45 in the evening.

The Sheriff said it's terrible when a car and a train crash. The car spun around a lot and ended up far from the tracks. It looked very damaged, like a crushed soda can.

The Sheriff thinks there were no arms or alarms at this crossing because it's not a place where lots of people go.

The company that owns the train tracks, CSX, said they are trying to close more crossings to make it safer. They also said that local authorities decide what kind of signs and warnings should be at crossings.

Now, let's talk about the people who were in the car. There were five people who got thrown out of the car when the crash happened, and they died. Another person died later in the hospital. The Sheriff's office told us who they were: the driver, Jose G. Hernandez (52 years old), and passengers Enedelia Hernandez (50 years old), Jakub A. Lopez (17 years old), Alyssa Hernandez (17 years old), Anaelia Hernandez (22 years old), and Julian Hernandez (9 years old).

The police said that the people in the car were from Plant City, which is about 25 miles away from Tampa in Florida.

Sometimes, accidents like this happen at private crossings. In the United States, about 38% of all crossings are private, which means they are not used by lots of people. From 2007 to 2017, there were 3,427 accidents at private crossings, which is about 14% of all the accidents. In those accidents, about 29 people died every year on average.
